Lingua Latina Aeterna

Хотя с латинскими выражениями при переводе нам приходится сталкиваться нечасто, нельзя не признать, что знание всех трех эквивалентов (латинского, английского и русского) очень помогает быстро сориентироваться в ситуации и блеснуть эрудицией. Ниже приведены некоторые, по нашему мнению, полезные латинские изречения с русским и английским переводом.

Amicus Plato, sed magis amiga veritas.	Plato is my friend, but the truth is a better friend.	Платон мне друг, но истина дороже.
Aut Caesar, aut nihil.	Caesar or nothing. (All or nothing).	Или пан или пропал. (Все или ничего.)
Carpe diem.	Seize the day (i.e. opportunity).	Лови мгновение. Наслаждайся моментом.
Caveat emptor. )	Let the buyer beware. (He buys at his own risk.)	Пусть покупатель будет осмотрителен. (Качество на риск покупателя.
Consuetudo est altera natura.	Habit is second nature. .	Привычка – вторая натура
cum grano salis	with a grain of salt	с долей скептицизма; с известной оговоркой
De gustibus non est disputandum.	There is no disputing about tastes. Tastes differ.	О вкусах не спорят. На вкус, на цвет товарища нет.
Dum spiro, spero.	While I breathe, I hope.	Пока живу – надеюсь.
Dura lex, sed lex.	The law is harsh, but it is the law.	Суров закон, но это закон.
Epistula non erubescit.	A letter doesn’t blush.	Письмо / бумага не краснеет.
Errare humanum est. .	To err is human.	Человеку свойственно ошибаться
Feci quod potui, faciant meliora potentes.	I’ve done what I could, may others more capable do better.	Я сделал все что мог, кто может, пусть сделает лучше.
Festina lente.	Make haste slowly.	Тише едешь – дальше будешь.
Finis coronat opus.	The ending crowns the work.	Конец – делу венец.
